Android Central Question

I just downloaded two ringtones to my Pixel 3. One is an .mp3 and the other an .mp4. When I navigate to the root directory both ringtones are in the download folder. I even moved the files to the 'ringtones' folder however when I attempt to set either as the default ringtone, in the settings menu, I can't find either of them. The only ringtones that appear are the stock ones put on the phone by Google. There is no way that I can see to transfer either of these files into the "sounds" folder (where the other stock ringtones from Google are). I've even tried using a file manager (ES File Manager) to set either of the files as a ringtone; however, even though the option is there, it is subdued and will not allow me to click it. I'm wondering if this is an issue with Android 9 itself because I've heard a few other people complaining of this as well? Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to Android Central! First, an .mp4 file is a movie file, so I don't think that'll be recognized as a valid sound file.

Second, can you confirm that the .mp3 file you downloaded has been moved to the directory called /Ringtones (i.e., the one that was already on the phone, and not one you might have created elsewhere)? And when you go to select a new ringtone to use, does the new Sounds app open? If so, do you see a My Sounds category?

Hi there,

I have the same issue here and yes mp3 already in ringtone folder but does not appear on the list under "My Sound"

Any help appreciated!

I wish that would work for me. Moved mp3 files to the ringtone folder. Tried locating them through the ringtones settings. Tried rebooting. Installed the latest update and rebooted. Still unable to see any ringtones other than the stock ones.

Help is much appreciated.
