Unable to unlock bootloader on Non Verizon Pixel 2

I received my Pixel 2 that I ordered from the Google store last night. I attempted to toggle OEM unlocking to on but the option is grayed out. This is on a non Verizon device.

I contacted Google support and they are escalating. Apparently they are aware of the issue.

Anyone else have this issue? I will return the phone before my 2 weeks is up and order another one if there is no resolution.

There is a long running thread on XDA with people that have the same issues.

Looks like they are saying Google is going to push out a software fix to allow for the oem unlocking to be enabled.

I had a Google Pixel 2 and a Project Fi Pixel 2 - same issue. Contacted Google Support:

I agree. That seemed to be the solution the CS rep was alluding to.

From Google support today:

"We already submitted a bug report to our Product Specialist. We appreciate your help in generating the bug report on your device as it will help us check the reason for the issue.
As for the resolution, you will need to perform a Factory Data Reset on the device and make sure it is connected to the internet during setup to resolve issue. This will erase all local data on your device, so I'd recommend backing up your personal pictures, music and video files before performing this step.
Factory Data Reset:
• Settings -> System -> Reset Options -> Erase all data (factory reset).
If you need assistance, please let us know or call us using a different device so we can help you Reset you Pixel 2."
