EVO 4G
Android Version 2.2
Baseband version2.15.00.09.01
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-ge2fb08ehtc-kernel@and18-2 #11
Build number 3.29.651.5 CL252548 release-keys
Software number ..29.651.5
Browser version Webkit 3.1
Pri Version 1.71_003
PRL version 60675

I have been reading these forum posts until my eyes are bleeding! So far, nothing is working. I rooted using the unrevoked method but NOT the unrevoked forever. I saw one post where they said to simply "uninstall the app" but never mention any names of apps to uninstall.. Superuser app cannot be uninstalled, the button is greyed out.

I tried running:
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.29.651.5_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_CNV_release_150224_signed.exe
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_157088_signed.exe
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe

ALL of these starts ok and says "Verifying information on your android phone
" but then gives me an error "Rom Update Utility has stopped working."

The Windows Application log report:
Faulting application name: ARUWizard.exe, version: 1.0.1.11016, time stamp: 0x4c889312

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll
Report Id: f382b95d-3a00-11e0-a1d5-5cac4cfdb79f

I tried it with HTC sync running, not running, uninstalled.

I updated the Profile settings, the PRL

I tried using pc3100img.zip, but it gives an error that it is an older base version and won't run further.

I simply want to update to the latest software version. I am considering running it over with a truck. I will NOT be using Unrevoked again... it's too much of a pain.

So HOW do I unroot this thing to get the update to install?

And when you go into the bootloader by holding the volume down + power button does it say s-off or s-on?

That should def be able to be over-ridden.

Just get the OTA on your phone? (are you planning on rooting again or need this to return the device? - if you want to root again then do NOT get the OTA, if it has to go back then just accept it).

Probably the easiest way to get the update is run unrevoked(the newest version) again to get s-off. then flash joeykrim(bone stock rom) or sprint lovers. joeys rom can be downloaded with rom manager. if you flash it from recovery all you need to do is wipe cach and dalvik. no need to do a factory reset. all your data will stay intact.
sprint lovers it's probably safer to factory reset otherwise is might get a boot loop.

I don't really know why the RUU isn't running.

The OTA fails giving the exclaimation mark. If I download the image, rename it to 'update.zip' and run it manually, it gives me an error with Status 7.

Yes, I would like to root again, but I would like to be able to unroot without all this hassle if the need arises.

What's JoeyKim? Where is ROM Manager? What is dalvik? What is Sprint Lovers?

I hate doing factory reset because it's hard to find all my apps again, but it's not a deal-breaker if it really needs doing.

I downloaded the reflash package from Unrevoked again, but since he doesn't put version numbers on his files, links, info, or anything at alll, it's hard to tell what I have exactly. If I rerun the unrevoked root, what's the worst that could happen? ...other than bricking the phone?

Joey is a dude that roots stock roms for the evo. rom manager is in the market. The only place I know to get sprint lovers is over at xda-developers.com. It's in the evo forum then sub forum developement.

[ROM] joeykrim-SDX-original-5.1 Odex *Stock Rooted 3.70.651.1* Dec 15th 2010 - xda-developers

Download this file this is the stock rooted rom lastest version pushed by sprint
jk-original-5.1-odex.zip

After you have your phone rooted with unrevoked you should have a custom recovery.

boot into the boot loader, select recovery, use it's options to wipe cache, then same thing for dalvic cache. The zip file should be placed in the root folder of your sd card before this.

I use amonra recovery so I'm not sure of the menu items in clockworkmod. but somewhere should be an option to install/flash/apply a zip file, this is your rom you downloaded and put on the sdcard
find the file thru recovery, select it and let it do it's thing. it takes a bit of time to flash and a long time for the rom to boot the 1st time.

if your not sure what your doing download rom manager and let it do the work for you but u got to run unrevoked and have s-off 1st. and the rom manager method may do a factory reset on your phone before it flashes. I've never used it. so i don't know if it automatically does all the wipes and resets or not.

Maybe someone else will chime in and answer your questions.

oh, the odds of unrevoked bricking your phone is very small but, all things root and flashing always carry a risk. Id suggest reading some of the stickies at xda and have a real good understanding of what your doing before flashing your rom.

baknblack,

Ok, this was what I needed. Thank you for the help.

I ran the new Unrevoked.
When I booted to HBoot, it gave me s-off so I knew I was finally seeing what someone expected I should see.

I cleared the cache.. I didn't see delvic cache, the only option I had was to clear the cache partition.

The JoeyKrim update then installed flawlessly. It cleared cache again while it was updating so I'm not sure my clearing cache was needed, but I know it can't hurt. My system now reports the 3.7 system running.

My next amazing and frustrating feat is to see about updating the radio as it seems to have remained the older version 2.15.00.09.01. I read somewhere there is a new radio 2.15.00.11... Any suggestions on that or should I just leave it? I don't know what benefit it would be to me.

Dude, you have been a big help. Thanks again. Ask me about a Windows problem and I can return the favor. ;)

leave the radio alone, i have the same version as you and it works great. bad things can happen flashig radios.

you may have to download the superuser app from the market as well as the latest busybox to gain full access to your phone its been a long time since i did mine.

And next time an ota update is pushed to our phones don't do it. just wait a few days and joey or someone will have a rooted version for you to flash. If you do need to unroot for a repair if you have insurance. Then the info in the sticky should work for you now.

windows huh, tell me how to gain admin on an xp machine locked down in a domain. i can't even see the run command or the c drive. damn group policy. i know i can take the computer apart and pull the battery to access thr bios setup and boot linux and use a program to read and crack the local admin account but i was hoping for an easier way, lol.

Cool, looking for those apps now. ..and I am having no problems with the radio, so I'll leave it alone.

I waited over a month to finally decide to update this one.. I kept having to ignore the push.

Well, your rights on the box are controlled by group policy on the domain controller. If you can somehow create a local account with admin rights on that computer, the domain controller can only delete it, not necessarily control it completely. The bad news is if you are forced to log into a domain, the authority of the local box is meaningless. What are you trying to do? Install apps? If so, there is usually a local admin account that IT uses to log into the box if there are network issues or other problems they need to do work on it. Many times the "Administrator" account is either disabled or demoted because that's what everyone looks for when they want admin access. If you manage to get the username and password you can always execute an installer or other application on the run line (assuming you see it) by entering "runas /user:<username> <command>" A box will open and ask for the password. Other than that, I am not that much of a cracker to be able to break out of a locked down shell.

I have a near identical problem to the original poster -- blurry eyes and floor full of pulled hair as well. Problem is I still have to remove clockworkmod as I have to return the phone for repair (camera flash has gone out -- seems a common problem occurring).

If I try and flash a 3.29.651 stock release now, then it gives a "main version" error. If I try a 3.70.651 release, after "checking" the PC36IMG.zip file in hboot, it simply returns to the starting boot screen without any message and without performing the install. S_ON since running unrevoked_son but I can still "su" in a terminal and clockworkmod (ver 2 so I can load old ROM images) is still there. I have cleared caches, done a factory reset, etc. I loaded SprintLovers then Sprint stock before removing S_OFF as has been suggested. This has all still left the clockworkmod recovery and su capability though. Ideas on how to remove the clockworkmod recovery and su capability so I can give the phone back for repair?

If you taking the phone into a Sprint store for repair there's no real need to remove anything. They don't care that the phone is rooted.

Success at last

Have heard differently but maybe depends on location.

FYI, I was finally able to get an IMG to work by following the link/instructions at How To: Get back to a stock ROM for a true RUU/wipe (actually a link to a Google Spreadsheet of instructions at the very bottom). That particular IMG is what finally worked for me.
