Unable to upload to Picasa unless I don't sync Facebook?

If I upload to Picasa, it fails everytime, becuase my facebook username is the same as my gmail address. I found some info on Google groups indicating that this is a "known issue" but I am wondering if anyone round these parts has found a workaround?
