Unactivated OV and Harmonia, then BACKside... back to Stock

Let's see... I freely admit I'm a noob with these phones. Picked up a new Optimus V from Target yesterday having them match the Best Buy $99.99 price. Using a Target card, got an additional 5% off. Not planning to activate it till the end of the month since my Boost phone still has service till the 28th of the month.

Following the instructions in mmarz's Reference Guide to modding, I have the phone rooted, Xionia Clockwork (CWMA) Recovery and Harmonia 1.6.1c_Edify.

Everything seems to be working, but...
There seems to be a display driver (for lack of a better way to describe it) issue. Here is an example

Looks like a crack through the unlock screen. When I go to the Gallery to view pictures, the whole thing just goes haywire, jumping all around, almost looking like shattered glass.

This is a mild view of it.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Your images aren't working.

I tried to right click and "Open image in new tab" in chrome and it wants me to log into google, then says I have insufficient privileges.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia

The screen is fine. If I hit the menu button on an appropriate screen, the menu area shows the same type of malformation of the screen. It's a software issue.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia

Forgive the silly sounding question, but did it have this issue before you flashed Harmonia? Have you tried the re-wipe / reflash? Different ROM?

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia

Harmonia isn't designed for the newer OV's.
Look in the root section for the sticky about black screens.

It's possible though you got an older version since it is actually working (odd!), in which case, you need to verify your download and try again.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia

Thanks, will give reloading it a try. If I don't have success using Harmonia, what would be my alternative path? Another question related to this. Once I get this thing working with whatever custom ROM works, do I need to back it up and restore my stock ROM to activate?

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia

and no, the problem didn't exist until I did the flash of Harmonia

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia

If it is a new phone, follow the sticky I mentioned.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia now BACKside

Still did it after starting over from scratch. So tried BACKside ROM. Still does it, just not as bad. The keyboard cuts in and out more when its horizontal than it does vertical. The unlock screen still shows something that looks like a crack in the screen, just in a different spot than before.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia ... now BACKside

Sounds more and more like a defective gpu.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia ... now BACKside

defective cpu/gpu at fault. thats definately not normal.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia ... now BACKside

why wouldn't it have shown up when it was stock? guess that's the next course of action is to put it back to stock and return it for another one.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia ... now BACKside

The first time you overclocked may have done it in, hard to say though.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia ... now BACKside

does your ROM or the BACKside ROM automagically overclock? I thought that was something additional that had to be done.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia ... now BACKside

You need an overclocking app, you can get them free.

Re: Unactivated OV and Harmonia ... now BACKside

Given the problems I've had, I followed takehull's instructions and I'm back to stock. Screen seems to be working fine. Is there anything I can do to improve the battery life on this thing, other than just using a task killer? Is there a stock custom ROM that just handles battery life?

If you are still rooted, remove the almost anything Virgin included.

Download Harmonia, and look inside the system folder, you can use that as a reference for what can and cannot be removed.

Doing that, will improve your battery, all those social media apps and such are a large part of what is draining your battery and should allow you to make it through the day without much trouble.

LeslieAnn, is there a way to eliminate the overclocking aspect when installing Harmonia? That seems to be the issue with my particular phone.
