Unfortunately Contacts has stopped working

I woke up this morning and tried making a call so I hit the green dial app icon and instantly get the message:
'Unfortunately Contacts has stopped working.. and it closes it'

I am pretty IT savvy so I googled the heck out of the issue. Here are the things I have tried.

  1. I started by going into Settings > Storage > Applications and cleared Data/Cache of several contacts related apps.
  2. I disabled the Google + app completely.
  3. I disabled all contacts syncing of all accounts and re-enabled.
  4. I made sure all apps are fully updated, even though when the problem first started all apps were out of date. Additionally, firmware is fully updated.
  5. Finally, I held volume up, power, and home button and wiped android cache partition.

Are there any other ideas? All of the Google posts I see are from this summer, I am wondering if this is a new issue in November that no one has a resolved yet.

Hello and welcome to Android Central bluetea55z!

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 41 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 6 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4, Android 5.0, Android 5.0.1, Android 5.0.2 and Android 5.1.1. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

Are you on a custom ROM, as Android 5.1.1 has not been released for your model, G900V?

The Verizon model has had reports of Visual Voice Mail causing the issue that you are experiencing.
