Uninstall Problems

any time i go to : home>settings>applications>manage applications tab and uninstall an app, the device freezes up. if i push the top button, it vibrates at me, if i push any of the bottom buttons, it vibrates. the only way to restart it is to remove the battery, then put it back in. then the phone is fine. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
