To set this up, the only reason I apparently have a G+ account is from when it was merged with my YouTube account. I didn't want G+, don't use it, and don't care to use it. So I've mostly just ignored it until today when I noticed someone added me on there.

I'm not familiar with how it works, but there was no option I could find to deny the add (which seems idiotic to me). Am I missing something? I'd be happy to remove my profile, but I do use gmail for work and YouTube, and I think those would be deleted too. I'm perfectly happy keeping to one social network.

You could block the person if you want. Go to their profile and select to mute / block them.

After 3 years on Android I set up a bare minimum G+ account recently, just my name. I don't have Facebook or Twitter active, well my twitter is active in that I get emails saying so I want to follow such and such (great band!).

Just to say you can disable G+, you will know that, but I 'think' remove your details and account also. So I am pretty sure you won't lose your Gmail or Google account.

I can't advise you about approaches, but I ignored a few and don't get any now. I partly was hoping some old old school and early life friends would approach, but no and I can't find them on FB, Twitter or G+.

I don't think I had a separate You Tube account, never uploaded anything.

Only thing is I can review apps again on the Play Store, though I have less desire to, and I think I read they will make it possible again without a full G+ account.

I wouldn't now allow FB or G+ to access my old contacts, but FB would send invites to people I hated.

Not much definitive help to you, but someone will fill the gaps I'm sure.

If someone added you to their circles, that just means that anything they post to their circle will appear on your feed (unless you block them). They don't suddenly have access to your personal details, unless you add them to your circles in return (which you don't have to).

You can modify a lot of what's shared and what isn't by opening Google+ on your computer, and clicking Settings from the dropdown menu at the upper left.

For what it's worth, I've found G+ to be a nice resource for communities that share the same interests as I do. Have also made some good acquaintances with random people that way.

This is in your downtime, is it?
When you've nothing better to do, lol

I have to try it more myself.
Difficult to navigate if you don't know.
I can subscribe to a few interests but need to learn more.

A bit afraid of being inundated, really.

I will check out the guides, blogs and threads further.
