Unknown status icon: circle with 2 dashes inside

Unknown icon in my status bar:
Circle with 2 dashes inside.
At far left (not right) of the bar.

I assume it's from a recent app but have uninstalled several and can't figure it out.
It's a Nexus 5 with Marshmallow and Nova, not rooted.

Welcome to Android Central! If you swipe the notification panel down, do you see any notifications with that icon?

No there are no notifications in the notification panel with that icon (never). And the icon remains in the status bar 100% of the time.

I found the answer to my own question.
The circle with 2 dashes in status bar is from the app "TrayVolume lite" (an excellent app).
There is a settings option for the app that allows you to change the 'notification position' to 'hidden'.
I assume the 2 dashes in the circle are intended to give some indicator of what your volume level is at, however for me it remained static with 2 dashes.
