Unlock and rooting consequences

I have yet to unlock and root my Galaxy Nexus because I was concerned I would not get ota updates from Verizon.

Did anyone with a rooted phone get the verizon ota update.

I just got jelly bean and was considering doing it now.

Neither unlocking nor rooting will prevent OTAs, in and of themselves. To root you will need to flash a custom recovery, which would prevent OTAs, however you can very easily re-flash the stock recovery. Read up on the guides we have available, especially the Hitchhikers Guide, and let us know any questions you may have

Unlocking and rooting was the hard part. The reward for that hard work is installing a custom ROM. And, that's easy.

I can't imagine ever wanting the stock JB having experienced a custom ROM. My wife has OTA JB (got it on the weekend) and I get frustrated when she asks me how to do things because I say things like, "Ok, just go into settings and click on... Oh, wait, you can't do that. Nevermind, you'll need app for that."
