I have yet to unlock and root my Galaxy Nexus because I was concerned I would not get ota updates from Verizon.

Did anyone with a rooted phone get the verizon ota update.

I just got jelly bean and was considering doing it now.

Neither unlocking nor rooting will prevent OTAs, in and of themselves. To root you will need to flash a custom recovery, which would prevent OTAs, however you can very easily re-flash the stock recovery. Read up on the guides we have available, especially the Hitchhikers Guide, and let us know any questions you may have :)

Unlocking and rooting was the hard part. The reward for that hard work is installing a custom ROM. And, that's easy.

I can't imagine ever wanting the stock JB having experienced a custom ROM. My wife has OTA JB (got it on the weekend) and I get frustrated when she asks me how to do things because I say things like, "Ok, just go into settings and click on... Oh, wait, you can't do that. Nevermind, you'll need app for that."
