I guess that's right lol but what exactly does that mean? And can I do that on gingerbread? I rooted it with locked bootrom.

On my Atrix 4G

it will allow you to install custom ROMs. theres a writeup on XDA that i used to unlock mine and install the Alien 3 ROM. took me about an hour. the install also included flashing CWM recovery in the fastbook menu so i no longer need to use the separate app.

So far that's the only reason I have found for wanting to unlock your bootloader. I have considered loading custom roms, but since I use my device every day for work it's not worth risking the brick factor or the bug that could come from a 3rd party rom.

as a noob myself and still learning all this stuff, as long as you followed the directions step by step, you should be ok. but be aware, unlocking does void your warranty. and any bugs that people have come across, others usually find a fix for it. but thats all up to you. Alien 3 has some bugs, but nothing huge that will effect day to day use. the only thing i found that wasnt working for me was Swype was giving me a force close. i had to delete 2 files and install swype beta or use direct input. the dev is going to fix it in version4 though.
