I am considering getting the S6 edge however can you buy one unlocked that will work on AT&T? Really would prefer not to have all of the AT&T software on the phone. I know you can disable it I would prefer it just was not there to begin with. Also, I would imagine updates will be more prompt if I don't have to worry about the carrier.

One of the reasons I like the Nexus program so much is you can buy a phone, pop a SIM in it and off you go. Just not sure if that would be true for this new model and still have it work with AT&T's LTE bands as well as work in Europe. If needed, I'll get one straight from AT&T but won't buy it off contract. Just use an upgrade.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

There will be versions available that are unlocked. However, you'll need to confirm that the unlocked model supports all the AT&T bands if you want to take advantage of LTE. Before purchasing anything, take a look at the supported bands of that particular model and see if it'll work with AT&T without limitations.

Yeah if I'm buying outright, which i might, I would prefer an unlocked version for resale value. Only I would want it to be able to do VOLTE too....not sure if unlocked could do that?

This is a key area where apple did the right thing, they have the LTE bands already in there so they work everywhere. It has to be cheaper in the long run to simply go with one chip instead of the multitude of different chips based on LTE bands. I see Samsungs move to use a single (their) processor across the board as a smart move (not for developers) so they can avoid having to build updates based on different processors for different markets and divest time and energy. This hopefully will make updates easier, but not quicker since AT&T will always lag and Verizon will always be LAST.

For ATT the tmobile models usually work on all ATT bands and the bootloader is unlocked. I have gotten the tmobile Samsung model on my last 2 devices and have no problem. From the looks of the FCC filing it should be the same this time.
