Unlocked Nexus on AT&T?

Hi, thinking of buying either an unlocked Nexus 6 or Nexus 6P. I have the Project Fi invite, but in case I don't want to go with that option, wondering how updates would work if I stay with AT&T with either phone. Would I get the updates from Google still or have to Wait for AT&T for updates like usual? Right now on AT&T month to month with my Note 4. Thanks.

I have an unlocked nexus 6 with an at&T sim. Still waiting on Marshmallow update from at&T!

I have a Nexus 6P on AT&T and it works fine.
