Currently you can get $300.00 off a Note 8 at Best Buy if you are willing to be on the hook for the next 24 months - installment plan.
Best Buy also has a $150.00 discount if you buy a Note 8 unlocked - pay up front or finance through Best Buy.

My wife has been listening to me talk about Android, and my research as I prepare to leave my Lumia Icon behind and now she wants a Note 8. She currently gas an iPhone 7.
I don't want to be stuck on a installment plan with Verizon, as I know my wife will want a new phone next year.

If I go the route of the unlocked, will it have the same capabilities?
As in WiFi calling
Advanced calling
Etc?

When i called Verizon they weren't very helpful, asking for the # on the phone to see if it would even work on their system. The lady did say that it should work, but to be careful as they (Best Buy) might give me a plain GSM phone and not a fully compatible CDMA phone.

TIA

The unlocked works on Verizon but I don't think you'll get WiFi calling. You could do the installment and you could pay it off after about 3 weeks. Their phones come factory unlocked so once it's paid off you can leave. I've been through the process it's not bad. There's no point in talking to anyone with Verizon. The peeps on here are usually more knowledgeable.

I got mine and so did my father. Works fine on vzw. Just go onto your my Verizon and block basic visual voicemail and premium visual voicemail.

I don't think wifi calling and advanced calling are available on unlocked versions. I know for a fact they are not if you are with ATT and I believe VZ is the same. TMobile is a different story.

Why not just get the phone for 300 off with the Verizon installment and pay it in full after the first month. You're not on contract and you got the Note 8 for like 630 outright. It also unlocked as well.

The issue with getting the phone with the $300 discount you only get the full $300 if you pay for 24 months. I was told that if you pay it off early you lose the amount. $300 / 24 = $12.50 a month. So if you pay it off after month one you need to pay the $287.50 that you would have gotten as the promo credit.

Sounds really weird but that's what I was told in the store.

Totally incorrect. That's only true with the credits from Verizon. When you purchase from Best Buy the discount amount is show as a down payment. You get the Full discount up front and finance the remainder. After the return window of 14 days is completed. You can pay the phone in full. I got it when the discount was $350. My financed amount was $586.

Excellent! Thank you, I will revisit my local Best Buy.
I do wonder if I should wait for the next promotion they have on the 10th.
I won't though, I'll go get it tomorrow for her.
I'm tempted to get one for myself, I've been waiting for the Nokia 9.

I wouldn't wait for next promotion, $300 off is probably the best it will be for awhile.

That is so untrue. OP be careful, you will NOT be getting the $300 discount up front. It is $12.50 credit each month for 24 months. It says it right there on best buy website and it the terms and conditions.

I have bought after similar offers for S7 Edge before from Best buy and my brother got Pixel discount last year and still getting the discounts until today every month.

What does blocking these services do? You can turn wifi calling on on an unlocked Note 8 (Best Buy) but I have yet to get it to work. I haven't found myself in a completely dead zone to test it.

Getting it turned on (wifi calling) seemed a bit convoluted. I read about it here...you not only have to enable it but you have to make sure you update the permissions for it. I'll try to find it and update this post if I do.

They must have changed how they're doing it between promotions because the $350 off promotion was all upfront as a down payment.

It allows you to get your voicemail notification. I mean you have to old school by calling *86, but I prefer that any way. I'm sure there are ways around all this by just loading the carriers software.

Late response, my apologies. So the wife and I went to Best buy and picked up 2 Notes.
I figure even if nokia comes out with the 9 it won't be ready to use on Verizon right away so no big deal.
Best Buy did treat the current $300 promo as money down, plus I could put down as much as I wanted to lower the monthly payment. It was a good deal, not as good as the $350 the other week though.
The lady did tell me that on the 10th they are having a Samsung promotion. If it is better than current I could come back, do a return, have them rebill. It will cost $35 restocking fee and you may or may not have to pay the $30 Verizon reactivation fee.
