I've used Samsung phones for years until I finally just got fed up with Verizon, AT&T and the rest. I bought a Nexus6P and moved myself and my wife to Project Fi.

After years of bloated phones and overpriced "service" when Fi came along it had to be for us. Surprisingly, even though we are in rural Kansas, Fi has turned out to work really well for us. Our monthly bill has gone from $130 a month down to $60.

I always said that I loved the Samsung phones if they would only develop the cajones to dump the bloat and put out an all carrier unlocked phone. And now they have! I am wondering if it might be usable on Project Fi? It has all the bands needed so that isn't the problem.

I'm asking if anyone out there has one of the new unlocked S7'sor S7E's and has tried in on Project Fi? If so, I would love to hear how it works/worked for you. What problems, if any, did you run into etc.

I don't have one, but Google clearly states on the website that the Nexus 6P, 5X and 6 are the only phones that will work.

I would imagine that in time the unlocked versions of non-nexus devices would work but we will have to wait and see. It would be nice.

I understand what Google says, but people are using other phones on Fi, some strictly for data and others have both phone and data. All to varying degrees of success, or failure. Most phone will only connect to the TMO network, others wont send sms etc. But, the Motorola seems to work very well as long as you activate the Fi sim on an approved phone and then take it out after activation and put it in the Moto phone.

It would be excellent if the S7 or S7E would work like that! While I like the Nexus 6P, I was a big fan of Samsung Pay until I got fed up enough with both VZW and AT&T to dump them for Project Fi. If the unlocked Samsung phone worked on Fi, it would be better than nice, it would be phenomenal!

The big problem with phones out there are they are either GSM or CDMA - Only the Nexus 6, 5X and 6P have all of the bands for all networks despite this. BUT!! The Unlocked GS7 is supposed to work on any network - both GSM and CDMA. So I too am wondering if Google/Samsung with open up more phones to work with Fi along the release of the fall Google Phones and Note 7

Even if you have all the bands you need, I believe that the Google Connectivity Service is what drives the ability to intelligently switch networks based on strength. So that's what bounces between TMobile, Sprint and (now) US Cellular. You might be able to toggle manually using a tool though.

But that service is only available on a Nexus, I believe.
