So this is my first unlocked phone (except for Pixel XL) from Samsung. I don't have any kind of visual voicemail options built in, so what does everyone do or use for visual voicemail on an unlocked Sammy?
Visual Voicemail is not a phone service, it's a carrier feature. It has to be enabled in your line, and that, depending on your carrier, might not be something they do for unlocked phones (crappy, I know, but that's how they try to keep people from buying unlocked). Depending on the carrier, too, there might be an app you'll need to download.
If you are with Verizon, Verizon disabled Visual Voice Mail and WiFi calling for unlocked phones. Only Verizon branded phones, and iPhones can use those services.
Yes, on Verizon network. Looks as though that there is going to be an S8+ for sale soon then. I will not revert to dialing *86 to get voicemails in my business. I get too many voicemails for that.
I installed an app called YouMail which will enable the VM notification. Still have to dial *86 but honestly, I rarely get voicemails mainly because I get few calls and when I do, I almost always answer. Had I known what a pain VM would be on here, I may have bought a Verizon version of the phone but they weren't competitive in device pricing so...
Check with Verizon though... like T-Mo, they have two 'visual voicemail' options, I guess... one is the one they charge for, which transcribes the message into text just like Google Voice does...the other is just a 'storefront' to list your messages and allow you to listen to them (they don't charge for that). It's 'built' into the dialer.
