AC Question
I bought a used/refurbished unlocked Sprint Galaxy S5 (G900P) from a Canadian shop on eBay to use here in Canada, on a Canadian carrier (I live in Canada). I was able to use the phone fine with my carrier at first, but I kept getting the Sprint hands free activation screen popping up and it was annoying as all get out. I contacted the shop I bought it from and they told me to do a factory reset to try to fix it. Well, not only did it not fix it but it automatically downloaded files from the Sprint service during the reset. Now I can't even make calls, text, or use data and the phone won't recognize my Canadian carrier's sim card, and my phone number shows as 000-000-1989 in the status section under the about device area because Sprint's files have locked it again. It also firmware changed the Samsung serial number to 00000000000 instead of the original serial number the phone had before and need that fixed as well.
I contacted the shop again and they have no idea how to fix it and said my carrier may be able help. I spoke with my Canadian carrier support and they said that since it use to be a Sprint phone I needed to contact Sprint to see if they could fix it because it was THEIR firmware update that rendered the phone useless. I was told I will need Sprint to issue an MSL code and/or for them to provide international unlocking instructions.
I went to Sprints forums in an effort to do this and get this fixed and have been told by Sprint social support that they refuse to provide me with the MSL code and/or international unlock unless I can provide them with the information of the previous Sprint account. Well since I purchased this from a Canadian retailer I don't have this information, and since the retailer purchased a bulk lot of unlocked Sprint devices they do not have this information either. Sprint could easily get this information via the IMEI number, which I provided them with, but they refuse to do so.
So now I'm stuck with an expensive wifi only phone and paying for a carrier I can't use...
Is there any way to fix this? I have no problem at all rooting this thing if I have to... I just want to be able to use it with my Canadian carrier....
Thanks in advance.
