Unlocking Axon 7 from another Google account

I came across a nearly new Axon 7 but the owner says it got locked to a friend's Google account by mistake and he's selling it as a result. Shouldn't doing a factory reset fix this and if not, how is it done? Thanks

No -- you need to know that person's Google account name and password. It's Factory Reset Protection, which is intended to discourage thieves from stealing a phone and doing a simple factory reset to make it their own.
