Hey everyone..

I am new to the HTC Evo world, I purcahsed the phone last Saturday and I have been reading about rooting my phone. So last night I plugged my phone into my PC and it asked me to install the drivers for the phone. Obviously the EVO doesn't come with a CD to install the drivers so I was wondering where I get them from?

I'm guessing I have to install the HBoot drivers?

I'm really confused and I feel as though this is all I need before I do my Unrevoked 3 Root.

Please help!

Thank you!

Matt

The drivers actually are there...

Heads up Not many of us approve of Said Method....

If you want to Root do yourself a Favor and Read the Stickies Above...

Liquid Jesus has a great write up about this...

The Real Way > Easy way

Go to xda-developers.com and to the Evo rooting section and under unrevoked they have a video that you can watch that will walk you through the process. I'd add the link here, but I'm at work and I can't access XDA from here.

Even though there are plenty here who do not "approve" of this method there are also plenty of others who do. It doesn't make you better or the phone better doing it one way or the other. However, you should read up completely and have a general understanding of what you're doing whichever method you choose.

Dude just look at the stickies on this Forum -__-

They are there for a reason

Thanks :)

I just get confused as hell reading it..

I feel like there is a lot to do and I get really confused. Sometimes I don't comprehend what I'm reading, and I'm not that great with computers and devices. I just don't want to ruin my phone, do you know what I am saying?

Here are your choices then...

Once you get involved in the root world many things come into play...

Flashing roms and backing up rom ect ect...

If your not that good with Computers maybe its not best for you to take an Easy route to attain "Root"

Your best bet is to read and learn as much as you can before you even think about rooting

Believe me if you run into any issues you will kick yourself for not learning it earlier... Others on here do and Will agree with me in a few...

Just Read the Stickies

Here is the Wiki at XDA

all the guides you need are in there... Just Read Read Read before you do anything...

What you don't understand is usually it's not doing unrEVOked that's the problem. It's what happens after using unrEVOked that's the problem. But w/e. When issues come up after using unrevoked (happens numerous times a week on this forum alone) I guess you turn a blind eye and pretend that it's not because of unrevoked.

..

I decided to go against Unrevoked and I am doing it the way the sticky says. I am figuring out what ROM i want to put on there now.

It's not because of unrevoked. It's because people don't bother reading and researching. I spent a month reading everything I could about roms and rooting before I attempted it. I knew I could have gone the "long" way, but I choose unrevoked in the same way I choose to throw my clothes in a washing machine instead of doing it by hand. It's easier. I'm now flashing roms just fine, currently running CM6 with Snap Kernel BFS 7.6. I'm using BFS because I know I don't know enough to use CFS.

Unrevoked is not the problem. The problem is too many people jump into rooting (both long and short ways) without completely understanding what they are doing. The answers are out there if people are willing to take the time to read and research and be patient regardless of the method you use, but some people on this board seem to think they are superior because they went the long route.

You spent a month reading only to use the easy way? Maybe the easy way isn't the easy way... Took me a few hours to read and only about an hour to do the long way. Hell, I got the "long way" down to less than 10 minutes... Guess we've been wrong about what's the easy way...

Nobody thinks their "superior" for doing it the right way. It's just really annoying when people have issues after using unrevoked because its hard to track down what went wrong. You can say what you want and defend unrevoked all you want the fact of the matter is they don't have a good track record. Their last method was an absolute mess and it wasn't because of people not doing this right. It was because the last method was ****.

Jerzy please correct me if I am wrong... Once you have gained root access it doesn't matter how you got there? With that said most of the people having problems, are having problems after they have already rooted or because they are on windows and have not correctly downloaded the drivers. I have read the sticky and yes it does seem pretty easy; however, I defiantly can see why people goto Unrevoked instead. I have a mac and found that using Unrevoked was going to be my easiest best bet. It was painless and took roughly 10 mins or so. I ran into ZERO problems. The droiddemos.com have a great video walk through by djr3z. I don't see how the sticky and typing a bunch of commands into command prompt will help anyone understand what is going or make there rooting experience any better.. This is not an attack on anyone by any means. Rooting is rooting as long as you can get there, and it shouldn't matter how anyone has rooted in order to get help. Remember we are all a community around here! With that said I think anyone who is thinking about rooting, regardless of which method, READ READ READ. I know a lot of people here say that a lot, but its true. You can avoid a lot of pain and heartache but doing a little reading in the beginning! And I am always happy to help!

Take care

Have you learned ADB? because Unrevoked certainly doesnt teach you that...

So that being said after you Root any issues you run into... For example...

"I Flashed a Rom now I cant access my USB or SDCard" <- I've seen it happen... and its personally happened to me...

being that I have the Knowledge of ADB from Rooting properly I was able to follow directions given to me from a fellow AC Member and fix the issue...

Most Unrevoked people dont even know how to install the SDK and this is an Issue...

any issues that can and will arise are preventable by learning the proper way of doing things and not cutting corners...

Unrevoked Doesnt need to be so secret with their way of Rooting either...

If we knew what they did and how they did it things would be easier for us to Diag any issues people do encounter when rooting...

If your against it then thats on you... but I will always point someone to the direction of ADB command when an Issue comes up...

d3..

Good man... Dont follow the sheep...

Once your all set up and ready, go Lurk over to the Rom Testing and discussion... Thread and or the Romoholics thread

I am reading the thread about rooting that you told me, and I'm just so confused on where to put those codes, obviously I haven't dont it yet I am going to do it tonight, but I am just confused reading all of that stuff. Is there any way you could dumb it down? Or am I being stupid? I'm sure once I'm in the process and seeing the things pop up on my phone I'll have an easier time. Was this really simple to do or was it complicated?

You need to install the SDK Kit from google onto your PC...

the codes your talking about at ADB commands I believe...

You might want to take a Stroll over to the General Hack Section there is a beginners how to guide on ADB well Sorta...

Im in Elizabeth / Union...
