Used unrevoked 3 to root and then rom manager to flash the newest version of EVO fresh rom. Everything went smoothly until the final reboot...the fresh boot animation just keeps repeating itself and the rom doesn't seem to want to load. Anyone have some advice? The phone is useless I'm kinda freaking out and I have no clue what to do now.

You need to go back into recovery and Wipe Data/Cache

If you have clockwork go to advanced and wipe dalvik

then Re flash the Rom

Do all that and tell me how it goes

Be prepared for it to do one bootloop when the flash is successful the first time after you wipe.... that is normal for the initial startup for the fresh rom. When you get going with the new fresh, check out the fresh updater, it's like rom manager for fresh stuff.

With that you can do cool stuff like add vanilla lock and flash overclock/undervolt kernels and all that good stuff!

Thanks for your help guys! I booted into recovery(volume down+power button) and wiped the phone. After that Fresh booted right up!

I'm assuming the same will work for F!n!Sh3R v3? I had the same thing happen to me 2 nights ago.

Interrogatory:

To Flash a new ROM for the first time I need to wipe? Can I restore using Titanium Backup after? Do I have to wipe each time? Or just for each new ROM? Thanks!

Generally, the first time with a new dev will need a wipe or coming from a different dev or from stock. Yes, titanium is a lifesaver, and is exactly how to get your apps back after flashes.

You need to heed this warning though, only backup your user apps. Trying to drag old system data over to a new rom can mess stuff up and make things go haywire. Yea, it's a PITA to reset your screenss and such, but it will save huge headaches in the long run.

If you find a dev you like, they try to make their updates work without wipes.......but pay attention to what they instruct to do.

Any time you get a bootloop flashing a new rom, you should automatically think "needs to be wiped".

But just to clarify, once I root using unrevoked 3 I can then use ROM manager to install a custom ROM? Wipe before using ROM Manager?

Rom manager has an option to wipe for you when you flash. No need to wipe prior to downloading rom manager.

Got a message saying "An error while flashing your recovery."

Error flashing recovery in rom manager? I guess try the easiest thing first and just turn your phone off and back on, then try to flash your recovery in rom manager.

Just got the same error message :(

Should I try running unrevoked 3 again?

I'm not familiar with the new unrevoked stuff. If you don't have full root, look into the program on xda called simpleroot. That will get you where you need to be quickly and very easily.

Yeah, a guide I found on there uses SimpleRoot. Gonna try that out tomorrow.

Thanks for the help!!

I feel your pain man! I started out rough until I understood what's what. I feel obligated to help like others have helped me!

Once you get your feet good and wet, it will all come together and make sense. Read up as much as you can.... it helped me a bunch.
