Unrooted fascinate can't upgrade to DI01

Hey all,

I'm relatively new to all this but had success in rooting, lag fix, and wireless tethering my fascinate. I wanted to be able to get the new rumored update in a few weeks, so I decided to 1: remove the lag fix (went fine) and 2: unroot and return the phone to the stock configuration (all of which seemingly went fine).

Now I have a bone stock phone fully reset and wiped, but I am not able to download the newest (September) build of SCH-I500.DI01 and am currently stuck on build SCH-I500.DH12!!! The OTA gets to 10% and then gives me the message of failed download multiple times at multiple locations (so it can't be the 3G connection). Does anyone else have this problem, or better yet does anyone have the solution?

I'm actually having the same problem. But I had to wipe and go to stock for another reason.

Do you have wifi on? If so, turn it off and try again

I too had an unrelated problem and did a factory reset to try to solve it. When the phone came back up, one of the first things I did was try to do the DI01 update OTA. It downloaded successfully and booted into recovery to install but failed. I would just recommend flashing an update file in CW as demonstrated in the link below.

As I read in other posts, I did not turn the wifi on and attempted this using 3g.

Does this mean I have to re-root the phone to use CWM to flash to the "new" build? Also, if that is the case, will I run into the same problem with the DJ05 update rumored in a couple weeks and would not be able to update OTA ever again!?! That would suck.

As long as you still have the update.zip file for CW on your SD card you can boot into the phones recovery mode (vol up + down + power) then choose "run update.zip" and it will take you into CW. You do not need to be rooted for it to work as I've installed CW on unrooted phones to make backups/perform restores.

In theory, as long as your system files are correct, which is covered in the post I linked to above, you should be able to do the updates OTA. If not, I wouldn't worry as there will always be someone on forums like this that has an update file you can flash just like the DI01 update.

It took me about 20 tries to get the update to show up, but it eventually did. You might just keep retrying. Rooting alone will not break your ability to receive OTA updates.

Something else is that supposedly it won't download/install the update unless the battery has a sufficient charge. I was told about 65% our so. I was having this problem on my mothers fascinate on friday... Let it charge for a bit and it did the update fine.

This makes a lot of sense as I usually only play around with getting updates/making changes to my phone at night after using it for the day so my battery is normally below that level.

I've just flashed the update file found with the instructions I've linked to in my first post on this thread. Much simpler than trying to get the OTA to work properly with my phones modifications.
