I initially rooted my Droid a couple months ago with droid mod and have changed to different roms such as Ultimate Droid and Cyanogen but I seem to be running into all sorts of problems lately. Force closes and the phone just running super slow. I now want to un-root and just get back to the basics. The problem is every procedure I find for un-rooting doesnt work for me. I tried the update.zip procedure that I found in this forum but when I boot into recovery my phone automatically goes to the clockwork recovery screen. Is anyone following me on any of this or have any of oyu had the same issues? Or do you have any other suggestions for unrooting?

Do you have ROM Manager? If you do, flash the sprecovery, if not, flash it manually and then move the unroot.zip to the root of ur sdcard, boot into recovery, choose install .zip from sdcard, select the .zip file, and it should do it for you. Worked for me.

Go here:Unroot/Unbrick your phone using .sbf - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

If you follow this to a T, it will get you back to 2.0.1. Then you can get the 2.1 official update. Good luck!

I tried this process a day or so ago. The probablem that I kept running into is when I reached step 6:

(Instructions:
1. Download all of the files above including the 32-bit OR 64-bit Motorola USB Drivers.
2. Install RSDLite 4.6 AND the 32-bit or 64-bit Motorola USB Drivers (Depends on your system most will need 32-bit some will need 64-bit)
3. Connect your phone to USB and turn it off then while your phone is booting hold up on the DPAD.
4. Run RSD Lite 4.6 as Administrator (For all you Vista and 7 folks out there. If you are using XP you may not need to run as Administrator)
5. Click the ... next to the filename box and browse to where you saved the .sbf file and double click the .sbf file.
6. Hit start and below it should give you completion progress and all of that.
7. Once your phone is done being flashed (It may take a while so don't unplug it) it will reboot and you will be back at stock 2.0.1 no root.
8. Done)

The start button was grayed out. I cant push the button. Its like something isnt right so its not giving me the option.... Anyone else run into this?

If you're running a rooted version the easiest way I found to do things is just download DM Updater and choose the option to flash back to stock 2.0.1 (may even include 2.1 now. I haven't checked).

If it flashes back to stock 2.0.1 you can then simply load the official 2.1 official update via the usual method listed.

+1 I've used this method every time I went back to stock

I am in the same boat as the OP, but my phone wont allow me to chose anything in ROM Manager, and when it does it just highlights. (ie; Rom Mgr>Reboot into Recovery> Are you sure you want to reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery? > OK (highlights my selection) then nothing.
I noticed that it was running slow and one day I checked SetCPU and noticed that it was running at 550 and 250 and then get a msg that says I have no root access....I stiil see my ninja (SuperUser Permissions) I dont know what happened to this phone, It wont allow me to even upload another ROM.

A little help from the experts please.......

Did you install the new superuser app found in ROM manager? I installed it and the phone rebooted and the app was no longer on my phone. Any app that requires root will not run without it, so I went here- [MOD] Superuser 2.0.3 - Human readability - xda-developers -and downloaded the superuser app there and it fixed my issues. I think maybe the superuser app in ROM manager is broke:confused:

Yea the new Superuser app shouldn't be used. It's a little buggy and it might have issues with other phones besides the droid and nexus one. And even then it says Experimentel in the description.

:)
