Unused LED

So I've had my Hero for about 3 weeks now, and I've noticed that of the two LEDs on the top by the ear-piece only the left one is ever used. Does anyone know if there's a particular reason for this?
It seems like it would make more sense for that LED to be used in instances such as when you're charging your phone, the right one would be the one to light up leaving the left one to blink if you received notifications.

the one is a light sensor, not a LED.

I thought the same thing when I got my Hero... I wish they didn't make it look like that but w/e.

I thought the same thing for a while.. I really don't think this stupid light sensor is very sensitive though.
