unwanted advert pop ups since lollipop update

For the past week or so, every time I switch on my phone (HTC one M8 - with lollipop) I get the little android man wiggling around which then turns into an advert for an app which had been recommended for me. Very annoying as I hate ads
I've uninstalled several battery monitoring and cleaning apps which I thought were the cause but it's still there.
I wonder if this is something new on lollipop or how to stop it.
Am I alone in getting these or is this common. And more to the point how do you stop it?

find the app culprit. you installed a rogue app.

Go to the PlayStore and install ( All-In-One Toolbox ) then install ( Ad Detect Plugin )

Now open All-In-One Toolbox, go to Plugins, open Ad Detect Plugin, you will now see a list of all your installed apps that has ads.

Open them one by one and see which is more likely to be the one causing the issue for you.

We can't recognize an ad, but check what free (ads supported) apps you have running when that ad pops up for you, as that ad is sure coming from one of them.

Note:-
Most VPN apps has full screen size pop-up ads like that (that of course unless you pay for premium) yet that kind of ads is not limited to VPN apps, as any free app can have that kind of ads.

It's totally random. Sometimes it comes on when I'm simply unlocking my phone. I'm stumped. I've run several programs and still can't decide which aps to delete because it lists so many. Most of them are apps I've had for years

Check your recently installed free apps, also a new update to an old free app could add pop-up ads to that app.

Hi,

I am having the same problem with these ads on my Galaxy5 when I swipe my lock screen. I have not downloaded any new apps since the Lollipop update or any updates.

Wondering if the instructions above for the HTC would work on the Galaxy5?

Thanks.

It was app. Music Downloader. I uninstalled it and it disappeared. I had to hold down the Ad when it popped up and low and behold it said Music Downloader was the responsible app. Thanks for the advice

Hi,
Back again. I recently have been receiving the pop up ads from androidcube.mobi... ( I did an S FInder search and actually found three websites listed.)
These ads open up Chrome, which I automatically close. Their appearance is random, sometimes happening when I unlock my phone, or open an app (BestBuy, Kohls, Pinterest etc).

I run All-in-One Toolbox as well as Norton Mobile, but they do not find anything. I have not downloaded any new apps or changed anything on my phone.

Any help in getting rid of these would be appreciated.

Thanks, Marie

Those pop ads have nothing to do with lollipop. Stop downloading third party apps and all your problems will be solved.

I never had the issue until I upgraded my phone to Lollipop.I keep getting random popups from the play store wanting me to download different games. I have a Note3.

I have the same problem and I have no idea what to do about it have you found a solution yet if so please let me know.

I've been getting them too and it is coming from Android itself. It often pops up after the phone is idle and you unlock it. It sometimes prevents you from messaging or making calls as you have to click on the home button to get rid of it. (I never click "skip ad" as this will probably load it instead). I'm using Verizon Wireless and this occurs after the update to Lollipop (which claims they aren't doing it). I have NO 3rd party apps, all downloads are from the Google store or verizon. very few apps have been installed after lollipop update. No apps from Verizon have been installed for at least 6 months. My task manager indicates it's coming from Android itself. (have screenshot)

Is there a way to disable this? Android ads should NEVER interfere with basic operations of the phone. What if you prevent 911 calling?

They are not coming from a rough app, they are coming from Android. Virus/malware detection comes up with nothing.

Hi.

I also had this problem and found that it's from Android system indeed, because of an option that by default allows your phone to receive ads.

To access this option, go to Settings > Accounts > Google and then look in the bottom for an option that says "Advertising". Click it and then just activate the first item to stop receiving ads from google.

Hope this solves your problem.

Charlieboy1997..

I have that option in my phone already set. No 3d party apps, nothing new since Lollipop update. However, these pop-ups still occur.

Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem on Verizon Galaxy S5 G900V, Android version 4.4.4, Baseband ANK7. No third party apps installed and the settings to opt out of ads is checked. The popup add was the first of its kind and appeared after a Google patch update managed (despite trying to avoid it) to get to installed two days ago. Correlation is not causation but not having had any popup ads for months and then suddenly getting them after a single update from Google is a little too coincidental.
