Up(?)grading to 4.0

I got a message on my SGSII that it's available. The online directions say to backup via kies. I got it connceted, pc definitely sees all that on the phone , but it says to hit the "Backup/Restore button". There is no such thing - anywhere on the pc or phone. Howdoyadothis?

Wish I had all day to spend on this...but I don't

be sure you have the latest version of Kies. That is the only one that works....it should come up and say what firmware you have, is there a newer one, and do you want to upgrade

Does your phone show as connected in the left panel of Kies? You may have to plug it in again, or open and close Kies.

When you say PC see's phone...You mean explorer not Kies right?

I backed up my wife's Pics and Vids and removed them. Then backed up.Everything else, all apps and settings upgraded nicely.

Its interesting you received a notice, hers did not.

Under the Help tab at the top of Kies, it has a choice to update. The latest version is 2.3.2.12054_20 Thats the Windows version.

Thanks! With strawdog's hint, I downloaded current version of kies. Upgraded to ICS. During the whole time - DeviceManager.exe has stopped working came up about three times - not sure what that's about.

I got the same notice on Friday night. I've never used Kies and I'm afraid to update and mess my phone up. I've read that Kies can be a pain. I wish AT&T did an OTA update. I guess I'll stick with GB for the time being.

The update using Kies went very smoothly for me. Be sure to update your Kies software if you are asked to, then do the firmware update.

It actually went pretty smoothly once I figured it out. You don't have to update kies on your phone - just your computer. Once ics is on phone - the last kies is there too.
