After problems I created trying to update an sd card to CM7.1.0 encore from RC-1, I got CM7.1.0 to load from CWM on emmc. It kept having issues, force closing. I then had to return to stock 1.0.1, which I have done. How do I get from 1.0.1 to 1.1, 1.2, then 1.3? Do I have to do each update, or can I go from 1.0.1 to 1.3? Now I cannot get a windows pc, or my main Mac to recognize the nook to sideload.

Any ideas would be nice.

I can still use the nook in stock 1.0.1 and sdcard 7.1.0 RC-1.

Thanks for the help
Dan C.

You can skip and go directly to 1.3. The instructions to manually update are on B&N's website.

My problem is my Mac or PC will not show the Nook Color. Therefore I cannot sideload, or drop 1.3 to update. I just noticed in 1.0.1 that no books, etc. in my library will download. I am going to guess it will not update through wifi.

Does anybody have a suggestion to get it recognized?

The nook knows it is connected, but the mac does not. The pc shows two removable disks, but says you need to insert a disk when you try to access them or drop a file on them.

Thanks

Did you go through the re-register process when you went back to stock? I would think that if you leave it connected to wifi over night and sync it first that it would eventually update on it's own...

I'll leave it on all night in stock and see what it does. I was wondering if I loaded stock1.3 through dropbox, could I use CWR like I did to load stock1.0.1?

Thanks Dan C.

I may just try to load 7.1.0encore to emmc, but is that possible from stock1.0.1, or from 7.1.0RC1 that is on sd card?

To get rid of the stock ROM and replace it with CM7, follow the instructions here and make sure you use the latest version of CWR (3.2.0.1). Nook Color: How to Install Cyanogenmod 7.1 | Maurice Mongeon

Thanks patruns. It took me a while, but by combining the instructions above and the instructions Here, I was able to get CM7 on emmc. It is better than the RC-1. Faster overclocking. We will see about the force close issues I had off sdcard, but I think those are in the past.

My biggest problem was getting the image on the sd card using a Mac, but using glasskeys commands helped. Terminal would never let me know it was done burning the image, so I just ended up shutting it down, and the sd card was good.

Thanks again,
Dan C.

I am currently in the same situation as the OP, in that I restored my nook to 1.0.1 and when I plug in the USB to my computer it shows two drives, and "insert disk" for each, making them inaccessible.

I can't manually load the official 1.3 and the nook is not updating itself over wifi (it's been 2 days). So if I follow this previously posted guide to CM7 with 1.0.1 firmware do I wind up with 1.3 firmware and CM7? I'm a little confused here. Thanks.

I am not sure what you are asking. How did you restore 1.0.1? Did you flash it from CWR on an SD card? If so, you can always do it again and go straight to 1.3. The .zip is here: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Yes I restored 1.0.1 via CWR 3.2.0.1 onto a sd card and flashed it, this worked fine. Thanks for the link. I'll post an update once I have it flashed.

For the record I tried flashing "nookcolor_1_3_update.zip" from barnesandnoble.com and it didn't work for me:
"Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E: can't open /sdcard/nookcolor_1_3_update.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted."

ok I flashed the update-nc-stock-1.3.zip multiupload file but my nook now shows itself as ver 1.2.0. Was this maybe the wrong file?

A nice side effect is that the USB problem is now gone and I can connect the nook to my laptop and drop a file onto it. So maybe if there is no 1.3.0 I can use the official barnesandnoble.com method, but I'd prefer to have the 1.3.0 file anyway if I need to retrace my steps. Thanks for the help, patruns.

It might have been. I saw someone else mention that. The location I downloaded the file from over a month ago was different. When I went back again I got an error message. The original poster put in new links but it looks like this one is mislabeled. Fortunately I still have the file. I'll have to upload it over the weekend so I don't keep giving people inaccurate advice. :(

I'd like to offer my experience which closely matched those here.

I bought a Nook Color ("Blue Dot" sticker on the carton) and tried to put CM7 on the emmc using CWM booted from the uSD card. It was not stable. I reverted to stock 1.0.1, which updated shortly to 1.2. This was a couple weeks ago before 1.3 was deployed.

I rooted the 1.2 with something (I've played a bunch with this thing...) and it resembled some hybrid cross between B&N Nook and android froyo(?) and retained the firmware identifier of 1.2. This worked OK, but this was the girlfriend's and she was happy. But it wasn't what I envisioned when I first bought it with the intentions of getting it converted to and Android tablet. The 1.3 auto updated and broke a bunch of market apps and ruined functionality.

I proceeded to revert back to 1.0.1, with the intention to auto update to 1.2, then root and install some other ROM, i.e.CM7. The Nook Color was stuck on 1.0.1 and would not auto update. 1.4 was the current software on B&N site. I had stock 1.3 but could not install because the Nook was not recognized by my XP machines, just as described on this thread. I waited 36 hours without any updates taking, even though all connections were OK, I deregistered and reregistered, to no avail.

I finally methodically proceeded to install CM7 with the following sequence from a fresh new 1.0.1 restore. Remember, this is a "Blue Dot" Nook Color.

1. Prepared a CWM uSD 2GB Kingston using 1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer, burned with Win32DiskImager. Check-sum (md5) these files to ensure all files are accurately downloaded.

2. Placed Cyanogenmod 7 (update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip) and google apps (gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip) on the card. Booted into CWM off the uSD card.

3. Formatted system, data, then cache.

4. Installed CM7 zip file, then the google apps zip file.

I think there are some hit and miss results when doing this process. For me, it was essential to use the files I used, formatting the items and having a fresh 1.0.1 Nook. Everything went essentially as shown in this video, even though he used slightly different file versions; How to Install CyanogenMod 7 on the Nook Color (PC Version) - YouTube

My results were a CM7 full Android tablet without any hint of Nook Color. Software version showed as 2.3.7 or 2.3.5 (sorry, recalling version from memory...). I have to stop playing with it so it can be used for the intended purpose of a tablet. I just ordered a $129 refurb from ebay B&N to continue the root tinkering and will try to report if this sequence was repeatable.
