Does anyone know when HTC expects to update the one to newer Android version?
The only thing holding me back is why it decided not to release on new version??

Sometime after the HTC one + comes out in October if they hold true to form. lol

I would guess fairly soon, seeing as this phone is extremely important for them as a company. I'm curious, what features does 4.2 have that 4.1 doesn't that would make you not want to buy this phone?

One article I read speculated that it would only be a couple months, but who knows. I don't think there's any solid info out there on this topic yet.

You'll get updates to fix things and make your phone better overtime.. but far as jumping from like 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 or 5.0 that will be at least 4-5 months wait

The only phone releasing with the latest version of Android is the Galaxy S4.. but 5.0 suppose to come out at Google I/O.. so regardless you'll be waiting on a update with any phone you buy.. besides a Nexus

One article I read suggested that 4.2.2 would come to the One much faster than that, but again, no one really knows. I think the rule of thumb should be that if you aren't happy with a phone running 4.1.2 then maybe wait for the SGS4. By then you'll at least have that phone and the Nexus at the latest version and HTC may have announced a date for their update by then.

even with the S4.. if Google announces 5.0 at I/O than you'll be outdated in just a few weeks with the device

Simply answer is that R&D and QA on new devices takes a while. I'm sure they used the most recent version available when they started to build the OS for the One, *and* are already well into the process of preparing a 4.2.2. update for it -- but to upgrade the OS on production models prior to the launch would have delayed it further. I'd bet that HTC wanted to get out ahead of the S4, and given the estimated timetable of the S4 launch, they knew that their best bet would be to ship with 4.1

True, but maybe they won't announce it. :p

Even if it's not 5.0 (though all signs point to that), it will be SOMETHING. Google isn't come out say, "welp, we decided Android is as good as it can get...no more updates needed!", drop the mic and walk off the stage.

who cares about about 4.2.2??? The jump from 4.1.2 is not that significant to waste a global update. If they don't come out with android 5.0 for the One within 6 months after its release on May 15th... then HTC will fail badly. I really hope they are smarter than that.

Curious of this one myself...what major gains would the One get from 4.2, other than making folks feel all warm and fuzzy over getting an update? :p

HTC is in a very weird spot releasing this phone with an old version of JB with KLP coming out just next month. As it stands with them doing that and keeping their less than stellar software updates rollouts in mind, the One will more than likely always be 1-2 cycles behind Samsung/Nexus phones. The DNA got released in November with 4.1 and there's no telling when it'll be updated, there's honestly no telling how long the phone will continue to be supported if Verizon employees are anything to go by. The One X will be getting 4.2.2 in about two months time, I've heard some One X's don't have 4.1 yet. But I'm thinking the DNA will probably see an update before the One, so I'd say the One will get 4.2 around somewhere around Q4 2013/Early 2014.

But really it'd probably be in HTC's best interest to skip 4.2.2 and just work on getting 5.x out so they aren't playing that much catch up. But more than likely they won't.

Better performance, widgets on lock screen. I think that's about it.

Out of curiosity why?
I tried using it, dashclock is sorta cool, but I found lock screen weidgets really useless. Any widget you put on the lock screen you will actually have to unlock the phone do anything so why not just unlock the phone and move to that homescreen? Takes exactly the same amount of time but the lock screen is limited in the widgets you can add and adds extra complication of what's on which screen (because you now basically have two sets of homescreens). Just seems like a really bad UI decision to me, extra complication, zero benefits.

Sorry. I'm currently an iPhone 5 user and initially took "JB" to mean "jailbreak" instead of "Jellybean". :)

Anyway, part of the reason I'm looking at the One is that I'm getting tired of chasing iPhone jailbreaks. Don't get me wrong - I love my jailbroken iPhone, but the wait for new jailbreaks is getting longer with each new major iOS release. I've tested Androids before (Incredible, EVO, and S3) and if I can get AirVideo and AirPlay functionality now I'll probably be convinced to stay.

Check out a jailbroken iPhone with LockInfo, it gives me access to a ton of the most current/important info on my phone right from the lock screen. I just push the power button and I see recent emails, SMS, notifications, upcoming calendar events, etc. if I want to interact with one I just tap a small icon and I'm brought to that specific item in the appropriate app. It's hugely useful.
