Update contact picture without Gallery app

Hi all, I've got a Samsung Galaxy SII with Android 4.1.2. With previous android version I was able to change a contact picture with any app, while with this one I can only choose between taking a new picture with the camera app or choose an existing one with the default Gallery app, which is a very cumbersome process as I am not allowed to change the single gallery order by/direction or to read the picture name. I've got other applications to use, ie Quickpick, but even if there are no defaults to clear, I cannot choose another app. If I disable the Gallery app with Titanium Backup, when I try to change a contact picture I receive a message that there are no pictures available on the device.
Do you have any solutions? Thanks in advance!
