Update Firmware ?

Ok I just got my tab and im un able to update the firmware, is this because i'm using it as wifi only I did not buy a data plan.

Sprint but I did not sign up for a contract, it will be a wifi only.

Typically updates are done OTA, through the carrier's network. So if you can't connect to the network, you won't be able to update... until someone makes a update.zip

I called Samsung today and there tech guy said you do not have to have a contract and you can use it WiFi only so that makes me feel better.

I had the same problem as the OP. I was going to buy a month to month plan on Sprint so I could update the firmware but they said I'd have to do a full two year contract to get any service - and yes I did pay the full $599. I spent nearly a full day trying to get this issue solved and finally just returned it to Sprint for a full refund.

Down the street at Verizon they had no problem doing monthly service that I could cancel at any time. I'm sure glad Verizon would do this because I LOVE the Tab and I'd hate to have to wait for a WiFi version.

Not sure if you saw, but it was confirmed today that the real wifi version of the Tab has not been issued yet. I originally bought the Sprint version, but also wanted a non-contract month to month version and so I returned the Sprint version and got the At&t version instead, which has the month to month.
