I think there is a newer version of Swype than then stock one on the latest OTA GB build. Is there a way to update it... or at the very least, you know, confirm that I am not running the latest version?

think u have to be rooted to update it. the instructions on other threads called for deleting swype off of ur phone and install the latest version. cant delete it unless ur rooted.

Correct. The only way we'll be able to get updates to the version that's included stock/through firmware updates is if (a) Swype becomes available in the Android Market, (b) it gets updated through a future firmware update, or (c) Swype decides to release an update specifically for the Evo.

So, to get the latest available beta, the version included with stock needs to be uninstalled. You can't uninstall it without rooting.

I've found the latest beta to be more buggy, however. Every time I rebooted my phone, the first time I tried to type something, it would say something along the lines of "open English failed," and set the keyboard to another language. I also don't like some of the interface changes they made, although being able to know if I've actually added a word or removed it from the dictionary is nice.

Hey, so I am rooted now... I wonder if i is worth trying to update. Especially since Sprint and Swype just released an update for the Nexus S 4G. It may be worth while to wait and see if they release one for the Evo too.

The one thing I really hated about the latest version of Swype was its auto-correct. Had to turn it off.
