[UPDATE] Wifi Assistant Disabled by Verizon

I bought mine unlocked from the Google Store but have a Verizon SIM card. I don't have the wifi assistant option either

I just received an update from the play store that enabled this feature on my Verizon Pixel XL. It was an update to Google Connectivity Services. I had to reboot for it to show up in Wi-Fi settings.

I got my Google Store Pixel on Tuesday and am using it with a VZW SIM and NDE63P. Google Connectivity Services showed up as an update in the Play store last night and Wifi Assistant was available to me this morning.

Re: Wifi Assistant Disabled by Verizon

I have a phone bought from Verizon, on NDE63P and these instructions worked perfectly for me.

I understand the frustration, but it is funny how fast folks want to throw Verizon under the bus on this phone. The expectation that they are going to block things and deliver a sub par experience just is not panning out.

That said, I hope they follow through with their promise of fast updates. I am enjoying this phone, and it could be a quantum leap for Google and Verizon. :)

My Verizon bought Pixel has build number NDE63X and I am unable to install Google Connectivity Services. I wonder if that is one of the issues. I assume, based on reading some of the posts here that people with Verizon bought Pixel devices have NDE63P?

Mine is not on that. Mine is the same build as yours is. Funny thing is and you can take this for what it may or may not be worth as it is coming from a sales associate at one of the Verizon locations. I am on a forum on Google that keeping people in the loop if there are any updates and things about the lack of connectivity etc and one of the forum members said he spoke to a Verizon rep tonight and was told we would be getting the update at the end of December? IF there is any truth to that, I am beyond aggravated.

Canadians have had this update and this resolved their connectivity issues. What?Does Verizon have to perform their extensive testing on this device or on their Network, if this is the case?? And if this in fact hold water, although like I said I know how misinformed sales associates are, Verizon should offer some kind of reimbursement on our statements for not being able to use or have very limited usage on a product that is exclusive to their network. What a joke!!

As long as all your apps are updated, Google WiFi Assistant will show up 24 hours after activating your Pixel..doesn't matter which carrier it's on. I have Verizon and it showed up 24 hours after every thing was updated.

I wonder if it would take 24 hours to show up again after a factory reset?

You are right. I just needed to be patient. Almost exactly 24 hours after activation, an update to Google Connectivity Services arrived with Wi-Fi Assistant in tow.

I have a Verizon pixel and I have the feature. Just not turned on

Re: Wifi Assistant Disabled by Verizon

had a pixel and decided to go to the XL. wifi assistant was disabled. added Google connectivity, added Android Pay and enabled NFC. Voila, wifi assisitant was then available on the wifi menu. had called both Verizon and Google and both told me it couldn't be done. persistence pays off.

It definitely works. I've had my Verizon Pixel XL for a month and am traveling in Mexico (roaming with my Verizon data, text and voice at no cost!). I've been seeing this odd symbol in the status bar and it turns out it was the phone telling me that Google was giving me a secure connection when I was on public wifi. Very cool.
