Thinking of the Pixel 2. Lately I've been buying my phones directly from the carrier but I'm looking at getting the Pixel through my carrier (Rogers). Security updates are important to me so I'd like to hear from folks if the updates are happening through the carrier as quickly as factory unlocked.

I think you can take your sim card out and get the updates if Google does send them earlier. also you can get Rogers to unlock your phone for free these days

Thanks. I thought that carrier unlocked were still subject to updates on the carrier schedule though as opposed to factory unlocked that gets them from Google. My factory unlocked Priv always got the updates faster straight from BlackBerry than those with Rogers.

I don't think you would have a carrier locked Pixel 2. the only locked models are from Verizon.

Verizon pixels are bootloader locked to prevent rooting. Other than that they are the same as Google purchased phones and the updates come from Google.

All pixel phone get updates from Google not from the carrier and if you get the Google pixel 2 from Rogers it comes unlocked

Awesome. Thank you. I may order soon. I just need to find the apk for the BlackBerry keyboard. I love this keyboard.

FYI that keyboard is available in the Google Play Store; you just have to use some other application (might have been this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blackberry.infrastructure) to install it.
I saw it mentioned on XDA so I jumped through the necessary hoops to install it but I ended up not being very impressed with the prediction model so I ditched it.

The predictive text learns as you use it. I'll see how the native keyboard does first but having typed on my son's Nexus and OnePlus I think I'll end up installing the BlackBerry one.
