After sitting on hold with a system that was interesting and slow to say the least, I figured out that the best way to update your current Galaxy s6 or newer phone that isn't receiving updates is to take it in to the Samsung Experian Shop that is located at your neighborhood best buy. They took my galaxy s6 (still running Android 5.1.1, lollipop) and updated it manually to android 6.0 (marshmallow). It took 15 minutes and I shopped around for new cases for my phone.
