Updating Chrome on Android 10

What version of Chrome is your phone running? I'm currently on 91.0.4472.120 on my Pixel 3 XL.

Does the Play Store show you that there's an update available?

Try going to Settings>Apps, select Google Play Store, tap Storage, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. Do the same for Download Manager -- you probably have to tap Menu>Show System to see it. Now try again.

Yes the version I have is older,There is a prompt saying update same with the browser too.
I have done all that & have updated play store and google services to current.

Where are you seeing the prompt on your phone? Is it a Play Store notification that you have an update for the Chrome app?

Mine says on system Version 74.0.3729.186. Won't let me update using pixel xl

I just updated chrome on my original pixel about 2 weeks ago, right before I switched over to my pixel 3xl. Be sure you update chrome individually when you update it in the play store... don't update it in a group with any other updates or it might fail to install... same with Android System WebView.

I had that problem on my original pixel. Once I started installing them individually no more problems ;)

It's in Playstore where it says update also in manage apps in settings as well as in the actual browser.
Plus the version I posted isn't the updated version.

I automatically get rid of any automatic updates as you said and update apps myself.
Done all the basic things as far as I know.

I had the best success by restarting my pixel before I updated my apps through the Play Store.... and the Play Store did work best for me for Chrome, if I remember right I had issues upgrading through the browser as well.

Yeah I don't update Chrome through browser,Always through play store and not automatic. Chrome browser notifys me that there's a more up to date version that's it.

I'll go again.

Got it to download,Says current version. When I click on play store now it says couldn't install in the app ?? This just the app going hay wire or my OS ? lol

Did you recently do a factory reset? Or did you recently purchase the phone? That's a pretty old Chrome version.

Chromes updated,Play store is being weird saying can't install thought it's already installed. System says it's the correct version so I'll go with it.

Yes I did factory reset recently,Quite experienced now with that lol !

Not sure if this would have anything to do with it, but go to Settings>Security and tap Google Play System Update. Does it say that you have an update there? (Remember, this is different from the monthly security patches.)

I'm assuming it does,Was stuck on HSPA+ for a while till I managed to change carrier services. Play services wasn't updating So couldn't update Chrome or anything. Sorted that,Still Chrome wouldn't.

Yes my play protect is good and app is updated to Version 25.9.19-21 [0] [PR] 380694501.

Once I got past the issue you had and got Chrome updated I didn't have any more issues.... you should be fine now ;) The Play Store is probably acting a little funny because you cleared it's cache and data, a couple of phone reboots and a little time for it to update the play libraries and it should be fine as well.

I just retired my pixel 1 a couple of weeks ago.... I thought I was the last person on the planet still using one, now I guess you're the last of the breed :p I liked it, great little phone and still working fine. I'm with AT&T and the beginning of next year they're dropping support for the pixel 1's. That and the fact I wanted a bigger screen were the reasons I retired it.
