Say for example a developer releases a ROM- ThisromV1,

Then a week later they updated it to ThisromV2. I want to update the the V2 but The only way I know is to flash the new zip file for the V2 rom. This will get rid of all my custom settings (wallpaper, ringers, settings, etc) right?

Is there a way to update my ROM and now lose all of my settings?

Depends. Some minor updates you can flash over what you have and you'll be fine. Some major updates, you are best to wipe first... The chef will usually say if you need to wipe coming from the previous version or not in his op.

Some of the developers have it set up so when you flash it will complete a full wipe on all data so in that cases you don't have a choice.

if you backup using titanium and you are flashing the same launcher (I.E sense to sense) you can backup all system data and restore it, it will replace your screens and wallpaper

all depends on if that ROM requires a wipe of data

sometimes if you are just going from rev 1a to rev 1b then no

if they tell you to do a full wipe then I would do it
