OK so here is the situation.

I rooted my phone using the HTC approved method from the HTCDev website. I did not flash a custom ROM. I am still using the stock HTC OS. My phone keeps telling me there is an update. I attempt to do the update. The phone reboots to apply the update and i just get the blue triangle with the exclamation point and the update would not update. I have contacted HTC and they were just about useless. The only reason i was rooting it was so i could adjust the font size as i have vision problems. If there was something other than an alpha version of Cyanogen for the Evo 3D i would use it, but there isn't. Any suggestions?

You can in root and then try to install the update. Also what update is it advising you gave able? Is there a version number?

It looks like the version i have is 2.08.651.2 and the update version is 2.08.651.3. I will have to see about unrooting it, and hope it doesn't mess with the font size setting i have set up.

In order for you to accept the current ota, you would have to unroot, accept the new ota, and then reroot jail.g the HTC method. So yea you will lose all your current settings. And the new version is def. An increase in speed and performance. So i would suggest you do it, or be patient for ics roms to hit the forums.

Or download the update from xda that's posted there and flash it. Lot less hassle. As for the reason you got that screen its because you do not have a factory recovery installed. Let me dig around and see if I can find the thread for you.

As i am fairly new to this, which one would i need, the odex or deodex?

Generally speaking, if you are not going to do any sort of themeing and such to the various files of the rom, then either will do. Doesn't really make a difference. If you are getting the rom with the intentions of using it as a base to theme, the deodex would be the proper choice.
