updating to 4.2.1

I received my Note 2 today with 4.1.1 out the box. My friend was able to update to 4.2 without a problem, so I expected the same. When I go to check for an update, I either get "the update has been interrupted" or "your device is up a to date, check back in xxxxxx hours"

Any help is really appreciated.

Just checked. 4.2.1 isn't available yet from AT&T. Maybe your friend has another carrier or has his phone rooted and got a hold of one of the leaked releases of 4.2.1. You sure you didn't make a typo and meant 4.1.2 instead because that is available from AT&T.

try hooking it up to your computer and Kies then sync up should tell if your needing an update

Looks like the previous posters covered this. Just wanted to add that you may be coming from iOS? I came from iOS about five weeks ago and this is one of the first things I noticed. Unlike iOS when an update gets released everyone gets it at the same, android's updates are waterfalled (google -> carrier -> device). In addition to the uneven distribution of updates, you'll also notice that apps have an uneven effect across devices. So when you're installing apps and your note2 freezes, restarts, acts erratically, etc. do not be afraid to suspect an app.
