"Upgrade" from HDX for better video watching experience?

Hi all,

I've got a 8.9 HDX first generation. My wife and I use this solely for watching video in bed after we put the kids to sleep. I'm beginning to feel this tablet "age" particularly when viewing non-amazon content (Netflix, HBO Go, Hulu, etc.). The apps are slow, sometimes unresponsive and sometimes crashing.

I know that the new HD tablets are underpowered and lower resolution compared to the HDX, but I'm wondering if they perform better using these apps. Has anyone in this thread compared the two, and does the HD work better?

The new HD Fires are great tablets for what you will use them for. You just won't get that 1080p experience you are use to

Even though the fire 7 specs are the same from my 2015 and now my 2017, the 2017 definitely is much snappier and doesn't lag much at all. For $30 when they are on sale they ar very hard to beat. Screen color accuracy and viewing angles are much better on the new ones as well.
