Do you guys think Verizon will give us an option to 'upgrade' to the Droid 2 once its released?

wouldn't count on it. Besides, they only moved upgrade dates up by about a month and a half at best on the Droid X. Anyone who fell under the promotional upgrade would've been eligible to upgrade by the end of august at the latest.

I doubt it. They didn't have any special promotion for the eris and droidx. the only promotion was early upgrades for the Droidx (which was there for people who got their last phone in the Blackberry Storm1 era, not droid)

The only time they went beyond a 6 month push like that was when they were trying to bottom out their inventory of Palm Pre/Pixi plus's.

Early upgrade promotions really arn't that common in the industry and no carrier/handset maker does them regularly (for good reason).

Handset upgrade cycles are set at 1 year (give or take) intervals. So in order to always get the best upgrade for your device, you only ever want to sign 1 year contracts, if you sign them at all (or be a single line/primary line on a high value plan)

The only other "early upgrade" promotion I could see them doing (I think the Droidx one was a jab at apple) is possibly with 4g if they come out with tiered plans. Get people out of their grandfathered plans quicker, and get them on the network. This is all speculation, but it makes the most sense to me, if it happens at all.

I doubt it. Put it this way. Many unhappy folks stuck with the Blackberry Storm 1, were appalled by the lack of options for the Storm 2 for those on a 2 year contract. Their retention department probably handled a fair share of satisfying some folks threatening to desert VZW over it.
But I don't think you would get that reception since the Droid was a runaway hit.

Yeah, I owned an S1 and it was okay for awhile until the screen blacked out on me |:

I have to agree. If the bootloader is locked down don't expect a rush of Droid users upgrading to the Droid 2.

Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

I doubt it. Verizon wouldn't allow me to upgrade to the Storm 2 from my Storm after only having it for a few months.

No way. I wouldn't upgrade to this phone if it we're free not much of an upgrade don't like the skin and I'm turned off by encrypted bootloaders. I would take the fascinate or evo but not the d2

Yes I will upgrade from the D1 to the D2, I want more speed and better keyboard. Love the D1 want the D1 turbo.

The Droid 2 and the Droid are nearly identical.

In-fact, I wish to see benchmark tests of them side by side and see how MUCH faster it really is, if much at all.

I'm sure as soon as Phil gets his hands on one we will have our benchmark tests.

yep we will have a benchmark test between a stock d1 and a stock d2, but when you put rooting in the equation who knows

No, they didn't do it with the Storm 1, which failed miserably hardware wise, so I don't see them doing that with a phone that worked great.

When I upgrade to the X or D2... I plan on changing my main Google account to a different one from my current D1. What will happen to all my apps.. do I need to back them up now (how)?

THanks

Don't know if you can get your apps into the new account I know with Froyo you can have multiple gmail accounts but I think it only syncs the apps from your primary account

Hmm.. maybe if I make the new account the MAIN one, and the old one a secondary, the apps will follow through. Guess I'll find out when it happens.
