"Upgrade" Your Droid Turbo 1

I was looking forward to the unveiling of the Droid Turbo 2 to see if it would be a phone that would make me want to purchase it and ditch my Turbo 1. While it is somewhat intriguing, it doesn't have enough to push me over the edge and get it. The Turbo 2's shattershield is a nice feature but I'm super careful with my phone. Customizing the look of the phone is cool, but I like my ballistic nylon. The camera is a slight step up. The battery is a step down. The SD card slot is nice (200GB!), but I'm only half full on my 64GB Turbo 1. There is no OIS, and no fingerprint scanner, no Marshmallow on the T2. Just not enough reasons to make the leap.

BUT...I still want a new phone. So, what to do?

Get a new icon pack. Change your desktop background. Get a new case. Change your widgets. Rearrange your icons. Clean out your internal storage. Off load those old photos onto your PC. Do a cache wipe, or even a factory reset. Change your PIN pattern. Get a new launcher.

Thanks to Android there are tons of stuff you can do to refresh the look and operational feel of your phone without actually getting a new phone.

You still don't know that the battery is a step down until somebody tests it. It could be that it gets the same battery life with a smaller battery through more efficient components, etc.

That said, I never upgraded to a Turbo from the previous Droid Maxx because the cost of the upgrade wasn't nearly worth the value of the newer phone. I suspect that the same is true for people who own the Turbo now. That's fine, and by next year you'll be ready - Android "N" will be out, the Turbo won't get it, and you'll be ready for whatever is new next year.

True, but I'm guessing the new Shatter-shield is going to require the brightness to be stepped up a bit.

I've had three Moto's in a row but I'm willing to look at other brands. For starters give me a humungous battery and a decent camera. Then I need a good radio and great build quality.

iPhone 6s Plus. Phenomenal camera, phenomenal battery, radios as good or better than Motorola.

The Shatterproof screen might be enough for me to move up from my Turbo 1, especially once I see the so called $300 trade-in deal they mentioned in the announcement yesterday. I can probably get by with a 32Gb model this time around too now that there is a SD card socket. Move my songs/photos's over to that and have plenty of room on the builtin storage.

I recently bought out my Turbo's that were on the edge program. Nice to see I still get the $25 discount per line, so if I decide to delay the purchase, my monthly goes down $50. It will all hinge on whether or not VZW has a promotion making the phone cheaper. I have some old smartphones I could trade in.

Just checked the Verizon trade in site, they want to give me $191 trade in for my mint Turbo. Swappa would be much better.
Makes you wonder what would get the $300 dollar credit if their own 1 year old "flagship" doesn't.

They give better deals when you are trading in after buying a smartphone on that $300 promotion than they do from that normal trade in site. I just bought a phone and traded in a 4 year old Droid 3 for $100. You can't get that on Swappa.

I checked the on my backup phone, Motorola Droid Maxx, and they would give me $200 for trading in on an upgrade/monthly Edge type situation. This is a $200 credit, not cash or the such. I need to go take a look at the Turbo 2 to see if it's worth the upgrade. I bought my Turbo in March for 300 dollars from craigslist and has been perfect ever since. I bought a blue back for it from eBay, so it's got my color and was super cheap. Not sure if the slightly better camera is worth the price.

Again - I actually went partway through the purchase process of a Droid Turbo 2 this morning, until they came to the part where you can trade in a phone. I chose my old Droid Maxx, I even lied and said it had a broken screen, and it still came back with a $300 offer. (I'm not actually ordering the phone, just wanted to see what the Maxx would get.)

The normal trade in process is different from the offers you get when they do an up to $300 trade in promotion. You will get $300 for the original Turbo or the Droid Maxx.

I am following you. I did the same thing, only got a $200 offer. Then cancelled out of it. Mainly just a curiosity. I don't know that I am sold on the new Turbo 2. May stop by Verizon this weekend to see if it's worth it. My contract is up, so could get a new one, or just let it end and take the monthly savings.

I looked at the Droid Turbo 2. The 4G signal is terrible on it. My Droid Maxx has a better signal. I picked up a HTC at Verizon it's signal was -71dB while the Droid Turbo was -109 dB and my Maxx was -107dB. That won't fly for me.
