I recently upgraded to a note 8 from a s7 edge. When i did so i used samsung back up to restore from to get all my stuff back. All my apps installed besides a few i thought. But when i search for them in the app list on my phone or on google play it says they are installed. When i hold done on the app to add it to the home screen it says its added abut there is nothing. Also i cant find the app in the app library with all the installed apps. only way i see them is if i search or go on google play and when i click on them they work

Check in the folders in your app drawer. You will probably find the apps there. These folders aren't ones you created, but rather the ones that came with the built-in software included with your phone; e.g. Google folder will have all your Google apps.

From there, by long pressing on any app, you should get an option for placing it on your homepage.

Another thing to check is within the settings for the app drawer.
Open the app drawer holding all of your apps. Look in the settings located within the 3 dots at the top right corner of the screen. You will see an option Hide Apps. Long press on that and you will see see a list of all your apps from which can select any you may want to hide. Perhaps those you can't find, were somehow selected there. You can then unselected them.

i have already done that. when i search for the app in the search bar in the app area it will show it. when i long press on the app i get 2 options one is to add to the home screen and the other is to locate the app. when i press the locate app it goes to the app area and shows nothing. if i recall i installed some of the files to sd when i had my old phone but unsure if that would effect anything.

Do you have a newSD card in your new phone to which you moved the contents of the SD card on the old phone? If the missing apps are there, I would delete them and try reinstalling them. You can use ES file explorer or ASTRO.

Thanks for the help Baby_doc. with the file explorer that helped in unistalled them and not installing them again thanks for the help again.

You might want to transfer all your files off the SD card you need saved intoyour internal memory. I would then format that card in your new phone. That could save you some headaches down the road.

Also it's always better to run the apps in internal memory. Use the card for saving data, photos, movies, pdf, etc.
