upgrading for better camera

Hi everyone, I've had the Samsung Note 5 for close to 4 years and loved it. Love the stylus and use it a lot. But the camera leaves much to be desired. Main problem was distortion of faces due to wide angle lens. I'm looking at the Note 8. Are those of you who got it happy with the camera? I'm torn between the Note8 and the Google pixel 3a, which is supposed to have a good camera.
Any comments about your phone cameras to help me choose?

I really love the note 8s camera save for low light situations.

I think if your going to get a new phone look at a newer Note or the 3a if the low light appeals to you.

Thanks for the reply, Niffilsenguard, that's really helpful. Now I'm leaning to the 3a, but I'll really miss the stylo... Note 9 is out of my price range. :/

Wait another month until the Note 10 is out and the Note 9 will probably have dropped a good bit and will be within your price range

agreed. I upgraded to note 8 from 5. Moving from the 8 to the 9 was not worth it. but from the 5 to the 9 would be a good investment if you cannot afford the 10.

words out of my fingers up above. if you can hang on a couple months the note 9 will drop in price

I too suggest going with note 9. It is all the good things from note 8 plus stereo speakers, bt spen and bigger battery. I love my note 8 but definitely prefer note 9 if am in your shoes.

Are you willing to buy a used phone? If so, go check out swappa.com and see if anyone is selling their Note 9 in your price range. Best time to look might be right after the Note 10 comes out. You may find a lot of people with a <1yr old Note 9 trying to sell their phones because they want to upgrade.
