Urbane 2 Disconnected = Connected remotely?

I just moved to the Urbane 2 from a Gear S. On the Gear S it would notify me if it was "connected remotely" which means it was using cell signal to connect to my Note 5. It would also in turn show or "connected via BT" when that was the case. How do I see which method of connection is being used on the Urbane 2?

On the Urbane 2 I entered developer options and have it set to notify me via vibration when it changes it's connection status and of course I also can see the cloud icon where it says "not connected" That said, does that mean its connected to my phone via cell signal? I left to run and errand and it did show "not connected" but I was able to send a text to my wife and it was transparent to her that it was from my watch....that is it showed as if it was sent from my Note 5 which was at home on wifi.

Just looking for clarity as it is new to me.

Thanks.

Anytime you see cloud icon with a slash on watch, you are not connected. When remote connected, the cloud icon will disappear. There is no easy way to tell the method of connection. You will see the active connection icon (wifi or Cell) in status screen. Unlike Gear S, AW does not have auto-cell connection yet. So, you will have to either leave cell radio always on or manually turn it on or off in order to get cell connection while remote.

Under settings my Cellular only offers "automatic" or OFF. ?? I have mine set to Automatic. So by having it on Automatic doesn't it just flip to Celluar when it's away from my phone?

Still testing it out on this for battery life. Reality is I'd like to leave it in Auto mode vs having to turn it on and off. Stepping outside for say a walk with the dogs or a bike ride and having to remember or manually turn it on would be a PIA.

The automatic setting is nothing like the Gear S where is auto turns on cell radio when leaving the BT range. In Urbane 2, the cell radio is always on in this mode but the automatic mode simply means it will auto use cell data when BT is not available.

There are many reports of similar problems. Mostly it is the problem on the phone side. Recent posts I saw mentioned clear the cache on Google Player services might help after you disconnect the watch (not connected via BT).

Thanks for your continued insight.

Now, I'm fully connected, the watch is on BT, has wifi access on my router, my phone is here, etc....and I can't send a text. WTF!!!

It keeps saying it can't reach google, but if I say "okay Google, what's the weather outside" it works fine and shows me the forecast!! It appears the mic is hearing me but nothing is transcribed.

VERY frustrating.

Wifi is useless and most of the time doesn't work for me either. I wish I can turn it off on the watch but it magically turn itself back on again.

How do you test it in your house next to your phone? You have to turn off the BT radio on the phone to test it (there is no easy way to turn off the BT radio on the watch without going through a few extra clicks). If you hit disconnect on the AW app, it won't re-connect until manually re-connect again.

I just got off the phone with a very helpful AT&T support tech who was famliar with the device. They conf. in the LG help desk and together they determined that my watch needs to be returned and replaced at the AT&T Store which is fine as I just got it a few days ago.

The overall status is that while it will make and receive calls the status of it under the sim card status is > Network Status: "disconnected" when it shouldn't be. It will make and receive calls but it's not showing an LTE connection thus there's potentially an issue with it's micro sim card.

Stay tuned....

HI
Did you solved the problem?

No. It worked sporadically for a few days but the unreliability of voice commands or anything related to voice input when not connected to BT was miserable.

I took it back got a refund. The att store I bought the unit from informed me that they have not had a single unit not be returned. Now they tell me!

I spent days trying to get it to worked remotely and it failed 90% of the time. I might get text messages but could never reply only some emails would come Thru but not at all times. Often times any type of voice recognition would not work

I have gone back to my Samsung Galaxy Gear S and will deal with the occasional poor performance in terms of connecting remotely. It works 8/10. The Urbane 2nd edition was a 1/10.

The only thing that solved the problem in my case was to clear wear data on play services app of my phone. Kind of tricky to find the option on the phone app manager: you have to go to settings ->app manager-> play services -> data management -> manage werable data-> clear all.
It will reset the connection so you will need to reset the watch and re-pair with the phone again.
Worth a try.
