For what it's worth, a buddy of mine who works for US Cellular said that we should expect the Desire in-stock in two weeks. Granted that this is all from a sales rep, so take it with a grain of salt, but it's about time.

Any word on how much it'll be with a contract? Your buddy's time-table seems about right, considering how all the regional carriers have been saying "August" for the past 2 months.

I signed up for the Bluegrass Cellular mailing list to be updated on the arrival of a couple new Android phones, so I've been expecting to get a release date for that carrier any time. From what I understand, the way smaller regional carriers try to compete with national carriers is they pool their buying power to purchase phones from the manufacturer, so I'd expect the release to be *roughly* the same.

I'm hoping the Desire can be had for around $150 with a two year agreement. I really would hate to pay any more than that since iPhone dictates that (successful) smartphone sales prices be capped at $200 with contract, and we're seeing a lot of newer technology hit the market at that price point.

He didn't say anything about price, but I wouldn't expect anything over $200 or below $150. You're exactly right about the competitive pricing, so that's my guess. I'll check and see if he has any info.

On a side note, there might still be hope for a $60 rebate card (at least with US Cellular), which is how the desire was originally leaked. Here's to hoping.

US Cellular's price will be $199.95, after a $70 rebate as a Visa debit card, with a two-year contract.

Nice. I talked to my guy last night and he said that they expect to sell them officially on the 27th, but might be able to pre-sell them on the 25th. He didn't say anything about the price. Isn't $270 a bit steep for what's an older high-end phone now?
