I have a 32GB XL. I had hoped to get a 128 but I couldn't find one. For day to day I don't need that much storage and figured I could grab an OTG storage device to store movies, etc.

Then today it popped into my head... Why don't I use the adapter that it came with for one of my USB 3.0 thumb drives...

It works great :)

So I figured I'd share this in case nobody else had thought about it

I was super pumped when I saw that adapter in the box. I used it to transfer a few files and such onto my device. Now I keep it in my EDC pouch along with a 64gb micro SD that I can hot swap between that and my Chrome book. It's and awesome set up, and personally I don't think I will ever reach the 32GB capacity anyway. Sure as hell wouldn't come close to the 128.
Definitely a nice addition in the box having that adapter.

I don't think a lot of people realize they can do this. It makes it almost impossible to run out of storage even with the 32

I think I also saw something in the developer modes where it allows you to move anything to an SD card if toggled on

Thanks for posting this. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why that adapter was included.

Makes me all the more happier that I didn't have to shell out for the 128. Might be a little inconvenient for some but at least we have the option

If you click the the system notification it brings up an option to transfer media as well as other options.

I played some CrossFit videos of my friend at his competitions. It worked seamlessly

Awesome information. Sure this might be a PIA for joggers and such but I have had some "dud" SD cards in my time. Some that I paid quite a bit of money for. I would rather have something you have the option to pop in whenever needed and still have what you need to have access to

You also can't charge and access external memory at the same time. Although if you have a little wiggle room you can copy files on and off, remove the adapter, then charge.

Almost the same issue as the Moto Z Force Droid and it's headphone adapter. Except you need to leave the adapter plugged in to use hardwired headphones.

The no charging part sucks but give sometime time to *** up with a connector and I'm sure they will

I like to load up music and audio books, can I just keep them on a drive in my car and transfer them to the phone as needed?

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. I keep my music on mine and just plug in when I want to listen and it's great for that

Perfect, I was hoping it would and I ordered a Black XL before going to bed last night. Ships on 12/01.

So, I've tried this but I cannot change from powering USB device to transfer files. Anyone have a work around or an idea why it isn't working?

Yup. Also works for keyboard, mice, Xbox controllers, and many other peripherals. Including hubs.
