What actually charges the S8 faster, a 5V/3A USB-C charger or a Quick Charge 2.0/3.0 charger?

Thanks!

I have both and don't notice a difference. But mainly use fast wireless charging.

Just look at the charge time on the lock screen when you plug it in. One is faster. I have done a side by side comparison but cannot remember which one. It was only by a few minutes though. Nothing major.

I should clarify, I don't own the S8 a couple of family members do. I was thinking about buying them a multi-port charger and wanted to know if one type was better than the other. Sounds like they're pretty close in terms of charging speed so it doesn't really matter.

The s8 series use Samsung Adaptive Charging which is based on Quick Charge 2.0. Also, QC is backward compatible so while buying a QC4 charger isn't going to get you faster charging than a QC2 charger, it will ensure that you future proof any other devices that might come with QC3 or 4. The type C port isn't really relevant in this case as you can use most* cables and they will be compatible with the charger.

*not all. Older cheaper cables might not work with fast charging.

Op isn't referring to qc, but rather usb-c's new power specifications allowing for variable voltages very similar to qc. The thing is i don't think s8 uses it and sticks to 2.0 based charge methods (qc 2 is based from usb 2.0 specs).

Wireless charging always takes longer for me on my S8+ as well as on my S7 Edge and Note 5.

Plugging in the cable and fast charging that was usually takes about 90 minutes, 2 hrs, 10-30 minutes or so wireless charging.

Charging my S8+ seems to take about the same amount of time as my S7 Edge did.

I use the wireless charger for night charging I use usb c for on the go quick charging. I have an s8 plus

My Apple USB-C charger charges as fast as the included Samsung charger, if that helps.

It most certainly does not use USB-C PD.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with all the specs...

Does this mean the S8 will not charge at 5V 3A with a capable USB-C charger?

All I was wondering about is if ^that^ would be faster than Quick Charge at 9V whateverA (don't know the spec).

Anyway, since another poster has said they don't really notice much difference in charging time, I won't worry too much about it.

Thanks

It most certainly DOES.

The S8(+) supports both PD (USB Power Delivery) and Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 (rebranded as Samsung Adaptive Fast Charge). Tests show that the phone utilized both fast charging technologies identically.
