USB Connected Icon?

I am trying to install the new google app inventor stuff. It asks you to connect the phone to the PC via the USB cable. It says I should see the following

"A "USB connected" notification that the phone is connected to the computer via USB "

Does anyone know what this icon is? I can't seem to see it. I know I am connected since the phone is charging.

Nothing in the notification bar? That's where it appears. It's what allows you to mount the phone as a USB drive, etc.

nothing. I did connect and use the SD card at home (on my mac) when I first got the phone. That worked. Right now I am on my windows laptop at work. I'm guessing at this point I am missing a driver?

I'm not getting that icon. But like I said, I am connected since the phone is charging.

Any ideas?
