USB DVD player on Nexus 7?

Unlikely. The DVD drive needs special drivers to tell it what to do, and is intended for a desktop operating system. However, I hear that the next version of the N7 will be coming with a built in mini Blu-ray drive!

Darn it. Was hoping even if not running on Android maybe I could use MultiROM and boot up Ubuntu or something. And that would be amazing if it did!

That's crazy! As great as it would be, you should burn the CD into your computer's hard drive, then convert that into .mp4. Make sure you move it into your Nexus 7's "Movies" directory.

Warning: I am unsure about how DVD menus are handled.
Note: This method will take up a load of space, and should only be performed on a few CDs.

Any program you recommend? Like VLC ir some other program? And that's part of why I don't want to make it a mp4 is for space but I have 32gb so not a big worry

You'll find a couple other threads here discussing programs for converting videos. But Handbrake is considered one of the better free programs. DVDFab is a good, paid program. But, there are many, many programs, free and paid, that will convert videos.

When I went through the process, I used Any Video Converter. They have an option to convert a video specifically to a Nexus-7-compatible format. Make sure you download this program on your PC/laptop.
