You have to root...at least that's how I got it.

NOT TRUE. You can use PDA net FREE but you are limited to non-https sites and you CANNOT use wifi, only tethered. I did this for a few months before getting the EVO and paying for the hotspot service

Same here, I saw tether and didn't read the rest haha. Just root imo, no restrictions and no rediculous 30 a month.
