Hi there,

I have an LG Optimus P880g, Android version 4.0.3.

I connect it to my laptop (Acer Aspire) via usb, it says it is currently connected to ‘Local Area Connection 2’ (LGE AndroidNet NDIS Ethernet Adapter).

Under media state it says ‘enabled’, ‘sent 194 packets’ but received 0.

The icon has a little yellow exclamation mark→ help how do I connect to the internet???

Obsessionally, the portable wifi hotspot doesn’t work either (its unreliable).

Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! It might be hard to find a good answer, since your phone is more than 4.5 years old. Is there any option in the system settings about USB tethering? Are you certain it's turned on?

You mean to tell me no one else has a phone that is 4.5 years old?

There is an option where you can choose what the phone does when the usb is connected.....and I chose tethering...

I'm not saying that no one else has a phone that's 4.5 years old. I'm saying that it might be hard to find a good answer, because the chances that someone else is still using that particular phone and is having the same issue will be much lower.

It might be helpful to check with your carrier. Tethering often requires an extra fee these days, or a plan that includes it. Granted, that usually applies to wi-fi tethering, but it might also include USB tethering.

No I have an unlimited amount of data on my plan, so its not a cost issue.

Perhaps its a driver issue? But I did recently install the LG Suite software (which wont connect to my phone) but Myphoneexplorer connects no problem...

It might be a driver issue. I assume your Windows Update is up to date? Check also with the Acer support page for your laptop -- maybe there's a BIOS or chipset update.

Is there a significant advantage to tether via. Usb. Versus portable wifi?

Please advise

I suppose it might use less energy, since you're not using the wi-fi radio. I'm not very familiar with USB tethering, to be honest -- I've only ever used the wi-fi hotspot.
